Digital cameras
Taking a respite from politics and things societal, today I am seeking recommendations for a new digital camera. I currently have an adequate camera which takes okay shots outdoors but is fairly dismal indoors (grainy, bad color, etc.). I want one that takes bright color shots, nicely contrasted black and whites, well-lit night and indoor shots, is quick on 'shutter' and recovery speeds, has good optical zoom, allows some manual fiddling if/when I want to, doesn't require pre-sets to take pictures, and doesn't cost more than a million dollars. Suggestions?

I have a Canon Powershot A60. It's an amazing little camera. It can do almost anything an expensive 35mm will do or if you're technically challenged just set it on "auto" and it takes great pictures with absolutely no tinkering. That's how I take most of my photos. (look in my archives. I have two Photos categories)

The batteries last a long time too. I had read horror stories about how quickly cameras go through batteries but I can take dozens of pictures without having to put in fresh batteries.

The only problem with it is that it's already obsolete but you could look for the latest version of the Canon Powershot (A70? A80?) and it would probably have the same features with better resolution.
