boxing day
Happy Boxing Day! In Great Britain and Canada, the day after Christmas is the official day of gift giving. And we anglophiles enjoy knowing that today has nothing to do with putting all the boxes away from yesterday but is named for the courtly custom of giving boxes of food, clothing, and other goods to employees, tradespeople, mail carriers, housekeepers, and others who have performed services for us throughout the year.
