Spring?!
The weather is gorgeous today. Bright sun, not too hot and not too cold. It's even supposed to be like this for several days. The water in my basement is nearly pumped out, too. Unless I can figure out some way to tilt the house toward the pump, I guess I'll need a shop/water vac to get the last of it. Goodie gumdrops. Next up: getting the hot water heater back on (hopefully there was no damage to it), then emptying all the icky boxes and stuff, then cleaning it and/or waterproofing it (which is when I'll need to find some rich relatives). Brother.

Can you really waterproof a basement? Or is that mainly advertising and hope? You're already in a floodplain. Take the day off. I would.

You're the best! What great advice. I took myself to get a pedicure this morning and it felt wonderful. Now for that chocolate sundae that Barb recommended! Tomorrow the water vac.... Thanks again!!

I learnt the hard way never to put anything that's irreplaceable in the basement.
Though in my case it was a burst water heater that flooded it.
Yes you can water proof a basement but it's a big expensive job and can be risky as in house collapse risky, not a DIY job.

VERY slightly good news about a burst water heater is that insurance covers the damage around here (but nothing that seeps into the house). Go figure.

I've now heard several people say waterproofing the basement doesn't even work. Imagine all that work and money - then STILL getting flooded.

Good point about not storing anything irreplaceable there!
