Campaign for 2008
What's Elizabeth Edwards' problem? First Hillary, then Rudy, and now Obama. I have to assume she's devoted to her husband and really really really wants him to be president but I wish someone she trusted would tell her that the actual effect of all her little outbursts is to make people groan and moan. It's not that what she says isn't true and it's not that she's not perfectly within her free speech rights to say anything she wants. It's just that it makes her -- and by reflection, him -- look like a wacky emotional loony toon. I don't even necessarily disagree with anything she's said, it's just that I would think Teresa Heinz had deep-sixed the model of outspoken-campaigner's-wife once and for all.

It's really quite sad that they put themselves through all this crap when she has cancer and he doesn't have even a microscopic chance of even being vp pick let alone win the nomination. How much is the left out of touch with reality? Let me count the ways.........

I just can't imagine doing this to their children...on the one hand I admire Mrs. Edwards' resolve to "carry on," even though I often find her disagreeable, but if they were successful in their campaign, they're looking at the reality that their quite young children could end up in the White House with a heavily preoccupied father and, if worst comes to worst, no mother. So on the one hand, while they might be showing their children that life goes on, on the other hand, is that really the potential future they want for their children?

It's touchy to even muse on such a thing, but it's crossed my mind recently.

Best wishes,
Laura

You both are so generous about Elizabeth Edwards. I agree that it's sad partly because he doesn't stand a chance for potus, although I'm afraid Hillary might want him as vp precisely because he's so gosh darn vapid. I think one reason the main media aren't critiquing him (or her, for that matter) is that it seems both silly and sad. Weird campaign in so many ways.
