Knot easy
My beading learning for today was tying knots. Definitely tricky. I know there's a tool that some people use but part of the reason I like this stuff is the hands-on-ness of it all, so I want to master the old fashioned way. I wish there were a Japanese jeweler nearby. I searched high and low on the internet for a perfect diagram or video instructions, but to no avail. Evidently, I just have to practice, practice, practice and maybe I'll get to Carnegie Hall there, nice snug little knots and all.

Beading! That takes more patience and artistry than I likely to muster. I used to love knitting, though. A babysitter taught to knit when I was six. Quite a feat, since besides being a restless child, I'm left-handed. To this day, if I knit in public, someone will kindly offer to show me how to do it correctly. But I haven't done it in years. Looking at your blog, though, induces that old hankering. My need for it seems to run on and off in five year spates.

Kathleen, you've hit the proverbial nail on the head. It's exactly that, patience combined with artistry and precision, which I find so compelling! And, there really is no "correct" or "incorrect" way to knit; Lucy Neatby is as adamant about this as I am, and quite the authority, so don't let anyone intimidate you. Knitting is so calming and satisfying - especially with all the new fantastic yarns that feel and look splendid - so I hope you get back to it one day. (Thanks for visiting, by the way!)

A, I need to ask for your help with knitting. I've been knitting for 20+years, but my glossary is in Russian. When now I see an interesting pattern I would like to try, I'm getting stuck on terminology and give up, and then go to the old knitting pattern books in Russian. For instance, I browsed some of the knitting links you have on the sidebar (ENGROSSING!) and found a fascinating pattern...something starting with E; it looks like a basketweave and involves 3rd needle and knitting in triangles. That much I understood...but I need somebody to actually show it to me, because I can't read the pattern explanation.

Tatyana, I think you're talking about entrelac and it's awesome. You knit it small amounts and then pick up stitches along a side edge . . . Very very cool. Should this be the provocation to finally get us together? Maybe we can dine, do entrelac, and see jewelry all at once! This week is not good due to the local county fair and company coming from out of town, but maybe next week?

OK, I'll select prettiest yarn colors for the lesson.
[and pls, could you deleted my previous comment? I had nasty encounters with spammers in the past, don't want to leave my address unattended. Thanks!]
