Politics
Like Laura, although a bit more cautiously, I must say that I do like Fred Thompson. He speaks straightforwardly and without nutty machinations and manipulations. I don't always agree with him but I like knowing what he thinks on account of what he says seems to be what he means (and I do agree with much that he says). But is there any chance that he'd get the nomination?? Maybe if he waits until Romney slips and slides, Guiliani offends and Huckabee just falls apart . . . ?

You missed John MacCain who I think will be the next President.

Do you really think so? He seems a bit too tightly wound to make it through the loonacy (sic) of the campaign. Course, if it's him or Billary . . . I'm afraid I don't think any of them seem statesmanlike to me. If you like McCain, though, I'll give him another look.

JMC is an impressive guy, as were his father and grandfather, both admirals. Compare that to the Dems putting lowly Lt Kerry who skedaddled out of Vietnam up for election and it gives an indication of the mediocrity of the Dems' candidates. Just think since LBJ - McGovern, Carter, Clinton, Gore, Kerry and now between three nonentities, and then there's Reid and Pelosi, how do they do it!? Actually I like Fred a lot, he'd be a wonderful President, I just don't think he's going to make it through the primaries, but we could be surprised.

You don't think McCain seems a bit tightly wound? I mean, I know he endured horrible things in Vietnam, but sometimes he still seems a bit shell-shocked in that he reacts with extraordinary anger or lack of control. Plus, he's really a Democrat (eek) in that he's often voted for raising taxes to get additional funds - and I'm ready to vote for a flat taxer. But McCain probably could actually beat Billary or Obama, so maybe that's a good reason to hope for him.....
