Homeschooling ruling in CA
Interesting ruling in California but troubling for all kinds of reasons. If this is legitimate, where have they been for the last fifty years? If it's just a matter of retaliation or seeking school tax moneys, why didn't they approach the ruling more publicly and with community discussions? Seems especially odd given that it's in California, the epicenter of personal freedom. I hope that perhaps one of my homeschooling blog friends will add a note of rationality and explanation.

Hi! I just did a lengthy post on this. Right now there is still a great deal that is up in the air about just how far this confusing ruling goes (i.e., does it even affect public school homeschoolers?) and what can be done about it (i.e., depublish it? appeal it?). CA has been one of the least restrictive states in which to legally homeschool but the judges chose to give a new spin to old codes and/or make new law (and, again, their ruling seems to conflict with existing CA law in some respects).

We're going to have to wait and see...the governor has come out firmly behind homeschoolers but since he's not exactly a rock-ribbed conservative we will have to hope the teachers' union doesn't change his mind.

Best wishes,
Laura
